4th of July

In the morning we went to our church in Arlington and had a flag raising ceremony with free breakfast. Our church congregation has kept this annual tradition for many years. After that, we went to Matthew's colleagues apartment in NW DC for a barbeque. It rained the whole day, and has for the past four Independance days. These pictures were taken from our apartment parking lot. We live right across the street from the Iwo Jima Memorial. There were many people trying to get into our complex because there is a great view of the fireworks downtown, but not as many people as there are at the memorial. So when we went to the back lot, they asked to see identification to prove we lived there. We have been here for a year and a half, and so they knew us and sent us through. It was kind of like getting into a high end night club or something. It is hard to tell from the pictures, but that is the Washington Monument on the left. Don't Matthew's sideburns rock? I love it when he grows them out.

It must feel like you are celebrities when you try to get into your apartment when it is like that. I bet the fireworks were great.

Wow, you live by the Washington Monument?!?! That is so amazing to have so much fun history stuff right in your back yard, especially for this time of year.
